Eat Fat to Build Healthy Hormones!

Did you know that eating good quality fat is the best thing you can do to keep your hormones happy & healthy? Fats and cholesterol are actually necessary for building healthy sex hormones (and a healthy brain). Good fats are full of fat soluble vitamins A,D,E,K, which are necessary for fertility and hormonal balance. If you are trying to conceive or even dealing with menopausal symptoms, be sure to eat plenty of good quality fats. But… the key is to eat the right kinds of fats.

Good quality fats include extra virgin olive oil, grass fed butter, organic lard (Did I just say that?! Yes!), ghee, coconut oil, avocados, sardines. Eat a variety! Don’t fear fat!

Fats to avoid: Vegetable oil, canola, soybean, cottonseed oil margarine. These fats are highly processed, highly inflammatory, and should never be ingested.

Check your ingredients. I was recently very disappointed to learn that the yummy french fries at @shakeshack are cooked in soybean oil. Also, did you know that @McDonalds used to actually cook their fries in lard (the more natural, healthy option) until 1990 when they switched to unhealthy, highly processed vegetable oil?

HEALTHY FAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT. Healthy fats support liver health, hormone health, and brain health.

*Our liver also needs to be functioning well so that it can process it and not push it into our bloodstream and raise our cholesterol.
